Mobility scooters can cost on average anywhere from £500.00 – £4,000.00, with powered wheelchairs costing significantly more depending on the specification needed.
Motability is a scheme that provides people with the option of cars, mobility scooters, or powered wheelchairs on a lease, as opposed to those in need having to fund the vehicle themselves.
Who is eligible for Motability scheme?
The following people are eligible to take advantage of the Motability scheme:
- Those on DLA (you will need to be on the higher rate mobility component)
- Those on PIP (you will need to be on the higher rate mobility component)
- AFIP (Armed forces independence payment)
- War pensioners’ mobility supplement
Please take into account that to qualify for the Motability scheme you will need to have at least 12 months left of your benefits allowance – the date that the benefit runs out can be found on your benefit decision letter.
